THE “ZIOGAS” FAMILY

In 1985 Apostolos and Fotini, residents of Thessaloniki, decided to leave the city and  live in nature, by buying a property of 7 acres in Liti, a village near Thessaloniki. The same year they bought their first horse called Giochan. When they realized that the best company for Giochan would be another horse, they bought Florita, an enormous racehorse.

By endlessly riding those two lovely horses, who became their first teachers, they discovered all about the world of horses.  Then the two horses became three, then four… The couple’s knowledge was increased through the large variety of literary and scientific books but most importantly through living together with a small flock of horses.

In 1992 they bought another ranch of 40 acres in Leykochori, just 39 km from the centre of Thessaloniki. While the ranch was in the fringes of a field of thousands of acres, it was ideal for the stockfarming of horses.
In 1996 they created a unique unit of Agro-tourism keeping horses as the main focus area. By that time the horses were already 10 so they began organising small and big excursions in order to bring in contact the people from the city with these exceptional animals. Their children were always their helpers.

The children, Christos and Babis were literary born and breaded on the backs of the horses. Both of them are “Dresaz” athletes and hurdle athletes since they were ten years old and winners of many trophies in all the free horse riding races organized within the region.  They have a lot of knowledge on endurance and western ridding that they gained by studying in a farm in Italy and also continuous training abroad where they renew their experiences. These two are the ones who will teach you how to become one with the horse.

Today the Zioga family deals exclusively with horses and their stockfarming. In their two Ranches they have more than 33 horses of various ages and they continue to bring people in contact with nature as well as the world of horses by transmitting their knowledge and their love for them.
